Iron Man 3 Film Review

According to Box Office Mojo, the 19th May 2013 saw Iron Man 3 earn a huge £670 million worldwide giving it the status of 15th highest grossing film ever!

Following on from the battle of New York in the Avengers, Iron Man 3 sees Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) battling with himself and prioritising his suits over his personal relationships, particularly neglecting the one person he can’t live without, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow).

Suddenly he is thrust into battle mode when the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) carries out a serious of attacks. After Stark’s former bodyguard is injured in the attack, our hero sends out for the attacker only to have his Malibu home destroyed in a vicious helicopter assault. The world thinks its superhero has been killed, so alone and with nothing more than a broken prototype suit, Stark sets out to find those responsible.

It’s a fantastic setup and with the special effects were provided by 17 different companies was ensuring this superhero movie is just as it should be – larger than life, both in terms of the performances and the special effects. Iron Man 3 is shot in 3D and written and directed by Shane Black. Downey gives a fantastic performance as the increasingly neurotic Stark and with the loss of his super-suits for much of this movie, we see him at his most vulnerable, especially with the focus on his anxiety attacks. But although there’s plenty of gritty and gruesome violence, the film is lightened by plenty of quips and comic moments.
